Made with Love: Pumpkin-pork treats

After watching episode after episode of Cupcake Wars (yap, she indulges in trashy shows), Mummy developed an itch for baking.
So, naturally, that means more home made goodies for us!
Wheeeeee~
#godblesstrashyrealitytv

Introducing our very own Dog-friendly Pumpkin Pork Cookies!
And trust us, it is outta the world!
#lickspawsinsatisfaction
What you need:
This makes about 80 cookies!
(Yap, Mummy's trying to kill us with cookies. But hey, we ain't complaining.)
3 cups of wheat flour (replace this with a grain-free flour if your dog is prone to allergies)
1 egg
300g of lean pork
One half of a pumpkin
2 tablespoons of parsley
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
Do keep some water and excess flour on hand too.
And we shall not forget the most important tool of the day - dog-shaped cookie cutters from Muji!
What to do:
1. Preheat oven to 175 Degree Celsius.
2. Cut both the pumpkin and lean pork meat into slices and boil till soft and cooked.
3. Blend the mixture into puree form.
4. Pour the puree, flour, egg, parsley and coconut oil into a mixture and combine until a dough comes together. (Add water if the dough is too loose and add more flour is its too sticky.)
5. Transfer the dough onto a clean surface and roll it to a 1/4 inch thickness.
6. Use a cutter to cut out the cookies.
7. Brush some coconut oil on the dough to help with the baking.
8. Stick the tray into the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
9.Allow the cookies to cool to room temperature before offering one to your pooch!
Don't forget to keep the remaining cookies in an air-tight container in the fridge! (They can last about two weeks)
#notinourhouseholdthough
To ensure that the cookies bake and cool thoroughly, Mummy kept the tray overnight in the oven.
And that was one torturous process.
We were pretty tempted to camp in our sleeping beds in front of the oven, but we caved in to the temptation of the air-conditioner.
Oh well...
#damntheweather
As you can see, Mummy isn't that awesome a baker (yet).
But one thing we can be sure of, it definitely tasted better than it looked!
#don'tjudgeacookiebyitsappearance #mytummydoesnotcarehowitlooks
Needless to say, our favourite shape had to be this:
To be honest, I was a little concerned about eating them.
I mean, I felt kinda bad that I will be eating my own kind!
#lifestruggles #foodvsloyalty
Of course, Pecan ah ma didn't give a hoot.
Seeing her gobble cookie after cookie, I quickly decided to hop on the band wagon as well.
#buaytahanliao #cannotloseoutma
And all I can say is..
I never looked back.
PS: Thanks God Daddy for lending a hand in the baking. Else we can only imagine what a disaster it would be!

Pets Magazine's Breakfast & Breed

We love pet events. But nothing beats an event that is catered just for Jack Russell Terriers.
The Breakfast & Breed is a series of breakfast events organised by pets Magazine. This quarterly event is meant for dog owners to mingle around in an intimate setting and learn more about breed-related issues. A vet and a trainer are invited to discuss medical and training concerns.
We were very excited when we found out that the chosen breed to kickstart the series was none other than us... the awesome Jack Russell Terrors. Erm, I meant terriers.
Plus, it was held at one of our favourite pet cafes - Happenstance Cafe
So, we just couldn't say no when Mummy's ex-colleagues invited us to grace the event.
#wewillneversaynotofreefood
Stupid Mummy almost couldn't wake up and we were nearly late for the event.
#mummyisnotamorningperson
Thankfully, seats were allocated beforehand.
We quickly settled down and waited patiently for the first talk to begin.
#treatsdowonders
Auntie Kristina from Puppy Colours Academy (Pecan's trainer) was invited to speak at the event too!
I was listening attentively to what she has to say.
#tryingtopickuptrickstoimpressmoregirls
Hehe, not only did we get to learn training tips from Auntie Kristina, I even got to be the demo dog to demonstrate a few new tricks I learnt.
#haolian #samsocleverhor #samisshowingoff
Since it was a breakfast event, of course food was provided.
Although it wasn't the usual dishes that our parents liked from the cafe, the sandwich was really good too.
#greedypecaniseyeingthebacon #soami
As much as we wanted to grab that slab of bacon on Mummy's plate and run, we couldn't.
#lifesucks
Oh well, at least we had our very own furkid brekkie!
However, stupid Mummy only ordered one portion for us to share.
Le sigh~
Thankfully, the awesome people at Happenstance Cafe also prepared dog-friendly sushi for us to snack on!
#nowmylittletummyishappy
Hehe, it was so good that we even taobao-ed some back.
#shhhhhhh #mummyisacheapotoo
After filling our little bellies, we sat back and listened to Dr Grace Heng from The Joyous Vet discuss common health problems that Jack Russells face.
Pecan ah ma (who also happened to be the OLDEST dog at the event) was really attentive.
Guess she should be. After all, age is catching up with her and she should start being more health conscious.
#oldislikethatone #mummyshouldgivemeallhertreats #seeisoconcernedforherhor
Besides the interesting talks, we also got to meet up with fellow Jacks!
#cutenessoverload
We had so much fun and needless to say, I was pooped by the end of the session!
The intimate setting allowed us to interact with other pooches and our parents also got to mingle with fellow owners. (I swear I heard Mummy badmouthing us to them though)
#whyshenogiveusface
Too bad for us, there won't be another one coming up for Jack Russells anytime soon.
Oh well, at least other breeds get to benefit!
Keep a look out on Pets Magazine's Facebook Page to find out what the next lucky breed is!

She is Pecan Woods...

So, life was pretty good for me.
After all, I was the precious only child (and grandchild).
#thosewerethedays #ineedatimemachine

Then, on one stormy night (okay, I exaggerate. It was a bright afternoon la), she came along.
#thenemesisofmylife
Yap, she is Pecan Woods Loo Lim.
In her heart, Mummy had always wanted a second dog. However, she didn't think that the time was right and hence, was never actively looking.
Until she saw this pic of a senior dog up for adoption....
The owner had to relocate to overseas and was unable to bring her along.
#ahmaactcuteonlylor #sheisabiggerfraudthanme
Mummy's heart melted instantly as there was a striking resemblance.
#istillthinkicuter
And when she saw a second pic, she knew she wanted to adopt this dog instantly.

However, she had one huge obstacle to cross - Daddy.
She didn't think that there was any chance that Daddy would say yes.
To her absolute surprise, Daddy actually okay-ed it.
OMG~
#ithinkdaddysecretlyhatesme

The very first time we met, this old grumpy smelly stinky mean woman attacked me.
So I did what Sammy Loo does best - I rolled over and surrendered.
#oiIamnotloserokay #iwasbeingnice
Well, guess that pretty much decided the dynamics between the two of us.
Le Sigh~

Our first car ride home!
#IwasstillhappycosIdidnotknowwhatwascoming
Pecan took to our household immediately.
I mean, she was taking all my toys and laying on all my beds.
#nomannersone
For the first couple of months, we were fighting, a lot.
But overtime, the fights died off and we even started playing.
#iswearmummycriedtearsofjoythefirsttimeweplayed #gotsodramaanot
Apart from her crankiness with other dogs, Pecan was an awesome dog.
She was house-trained, great home along, loves people (and tolerate kids) and not a fussy eater at all.
Almost everything that I am not.
#spoilmarketla

While she is considered rather genki for a senior dog, ah ma did have her fair share of medical issues.
Firstly, her breath was so bad that she had to undergo scaling (she lost four teeth!).
#ahmaisbogay
Secondly, she had pyometra (uterine infection) and required to undergo sterlisation. (That came with a cancer scare!)
Thankfully, she made a quick recovery and was back to her cranky ways really soon.
Now, she has a clean bill of health and we even celebrated her 11th birthday in 2014.
#shockedthatsheisancient
Ah ma is still a work-in-progress and can be slightly reactive when leashed.
Thankfully, our parents worked with a trainer to address her issues and we're proud to say that Pecan ah ma is pretty good with other dogs now!
Even better than me lor.
#shereallyisspoilmarketleh #nowilooklikeabratbesideher
K la K la, as much as I'm not too pleased to have to share my parent's attention with a smelly granny, I do enjoy her company. SOMEWHAT.
Well, at least there's someone to bother when mummy is ignoring me.
Plus, she's quite comfy to cuddle with.
So, yap, she is my sister and I am stuck with her.
But you know what, despite my endless ramblings, I can't quite imagine life without her.
So, I guess she is here to stay, and I ain't complaining no more.

Sam I am

Mummy always tell people that I am an ABCD, an American Born Chinese Dog.
Cos, I was born in the United States!
Not only that, I am actually a true-blue New Yorker!
Here's how my story goes...

Daddy was posted to New York for a work stint and of course, Mummy tagged along.
#noitisnottaitailifeitishousewifelife
Mummy has always wanted a dog (since she was a kid). So, there was no better time to have one when she has three years on her hands to kill in a foreign place.
Hence, Mummy started researching about shaggy dogs and came upon Rough Coat Jack Russell Terriers.
She also found a breeder (MeadowBrook Russell) in New York.
And lucky her, there was a puppy available!
Yap, it was yours truly.
WAHAHAHA..

The picture that sealed the deal!
My parents went by that weekend to check on me and to speak to my breeder, Patti.
They always said that I was a fraud. After all, I gave them tons of kisses when we first met.
(Once I went home with them, all I did was nip them non-stop. No more kisses!)
#socleverhor

Within a week, this adorable two-months old puppy became part of the Loo Lim household.
As for my name of Sam Forest Loo Lim, Daddy came up with it.
#boringhor #daddyhasnocreativity
So I spent my childhood and teenage years, terrorising the streets of New York, including Times Square.
Mummy's dog park friends used to call me Mayor Sam.
Cos, I love nothing than to get involved in every single fight or commotion with the park.
Plus, I walk with the airs of a boss, k.

Of course, this New Yorker got to travel around a fair bit.
I laid my paws on the Washington Monument, at DC.
Walked the Hollywood Boulevard.
#onedaymynamewillbethere #yaladreamingalready
Swam at the beach of Fiesta Island, San Diego.
#thiswasdoggyheaven
And nearly died of heatstroke along the Las Vegas strip.
And the best part of the States, that I still miss dearly today - SNOW!
#nothingsatisfiesmemorethanturningsnowyellowwithpee
After two and a half years of living in the Red Apple, we had to return home.
So I packed my bags and set sail on a three-day journey to the little Red Dot.
#noididnotreallysailback #youthinkicrazyhuh
I flew via KLM and made a pit stop at Amsterdam (hehee, for you know what), before setting paws on Singapore.

Well, so far, Singapore has been treating me pretty kindly.
I get to terrorize dog parks.. oh oh ..and roll in mud.
Swim, swim and swim!
#onmyrescuemissions
Chill out at pet cafes.
Life sounds sweet huh.
While, it really is a happy ever after.
Well, kinda....

Cos, she came along.
#pffffffft
Anyway, that's another chapter of my life for another time.

Work-in-Progress

Kudos to Mummy for finally creating our very own Facebook page!
#waituntilnecklonglongliao #pleasegiveusyoursupportwor

Now that it is off our to-do list. The next thing inefficient mummy  we have to get around doing... is.. giving our blog a fresh look!
Unfortunately, Mummy is no where close to being an expert in this field.

#peopletakefiveminutesshetakesfivehours
So, please bear with us as we work on refreshing the blog!

Made with Love: Blueberry Ice Cream

It's been a while since Mummy made us something. So, she decided to whip a yummy dessert to combat the heat!

It's none other than... Blueberry Ice Cream for dogs!
#mummycannotplateforherlife #ittastedbetterthanitlooked #mummypretendingtobeadessertchef #failla
It was a real simple fix and required only a handful of ingredients.

What you need:
2 cups of plain/greek yoghurt
1 box of fresh blueberries
1 teaspoon of honey
1 piece of dehydrated pork/beef/chicken jerky
Checking out the ingredients and giving it our sniff of approval.
As neither me and Pecan ah ma are fans of fruits, Mummy decided to incorporate some blueberries to trick us into eating them.
Besides having antioxidants, they can also help with cognitive functions for older dogs.
#senileahmaneedstoeattonsofblueberries #sucksthatwegotoutsmartbymummy

What to do:
1. Puree the blueberries using a blender (Do set aside some as garnish)
2. Using a mixer, mix the yoghurt and honey together.
3. Add the pureed blueberries and mix thoroughly.
4. If you have an ice cream maker like us (we have a Cuisinart), pour the mixture into the maker and churn for 15 minutes.
If not, pour the mixture into an ice tray and freeze overnight to obtain Blueberry pops instead.
5. Cut up a piece of jerky into small pieces.
5. Serve the yummy ice cream/pops and satisfy the little bellies of your furkids. Don't forget to sprinkle some jerky as toppings to make the dessert more palatable!

Easy breezy isn't it?

To ensure that the ice cream was camera ready, Mummy went on to transfer the 'ice cream' into a glass container and placed it in the freezer to chill for about an hour.
But unfortunately, it was a pain to shoot and she only had a couple of minutes to snap away.
#timecrunch #foroncewedidnothavetowaitforeverforourtreats #Iamlikingicecreamalready

Sizing the dish up.
We just wanted to make sure it was edible.
And off we went!
#tongueactioninprogress
Greedy ah ma actually took a chunk and attempted to run off into her little cozy corner to chomp away.
Mummy panicked and had to catch the melting ice-cream with her bare hands to prevent it from falling on the couch.
Hehe, it was a pretty funny sight.
#winliaola #ahmathetroublemaker
Giving the dessert our tongues of approval!
Yumz!
Looking forward to more yummy dishes by Mummy!

Mummy's note: Okay, to be honest, this tasted wayyyyy too sour for my liking. And it definitely fascinated me how the pooches ate it up like it was the best thing in their lives. Patronising indeed. Hehe, this is exactly why I rather cook for them than the mister of the household, k. Oh well, glad they enjoyed it! Oh, if you wanna make some for yourself, don't forget to add sugar!
