Barking Good: Pee-Can-Bites

Anyway, some of you may know that our dearest Pecan ah ma went for a dental scaling recently.
We knew that Pecan ah ma's scaling was due. But Mummy was rather hesitant as she really did not want to put Pecan under anaesthesia if possible.
However, after consulting with as many as four different vets, Mummy got the consensus that the procedure was a necessity.
Oh well~
So in ah ma went. (And out went $1.2k from Daddy's pocket!)

Pecan isn't the most cooperative pooch at the vet (she's a pain like me!).
#likebrotherlikesister #cannotletthevetbullyuslor
So during the initial consultation, Mummy was told that at least three teeth needed to be extracted.
There might be more, just that the vet couldn't tell as of then.
But what Mummy didn't expect was that these many teeth had to go....
YAP, they all belonged to Pecan.
#toothfairyisgonnabebroke
In case you're wondering how many came out....
Mummy wanted to keep them, so the vet obliged and packed it for us.
#weirdsouvenirs #cankeepiscankeepjustnotonpecan

While Pecan's bad breath is finally something of the past after the extraction, she is officially toothless.
#bogayahma #twopawscancounthowmanyteethshehasleftlor
It's about time someone seriously invented doggy dentures lor.
And ah ma will look like this.

Okay... on second thoughts... bad idea.
She looks.... retarded.
WAHAHAHHAHAHAHA...
#cheapthrill

Jokes aside, it was really very heartbreaking for Mummy to see Pecan with so few teeth.
Many of the treats that she used to adore were starting to be a chore for her to eat.
And we could see her frustration as she laid on the floor staring at them.
#guesswhogotthetreatsintheend #menocomplain
So, Mummy went ahead and contacted Auntie Dionne from Barking Good for a special request - toothless friendly treats just for the bogay ah ma.

And after a few email discussions and a couple of weeks, viola~
Mummy came home with these!
Introducing, Pee-can bite...
so can you!
#howcornycanmummyget #cmi #facepalm
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS SO NOT THE OFFICIAL NAME OF THIS TREAT. IT IS JUST MUMMY BEING SILLY. Auntie Dionne has yet to name them.
Pecan: "Is it just for me?"
Sam: "Say what?! How about me"
Auntie Dionne is an absolute sweetheart. She specifically asked Mummy for a list of meats that Pecan ah ma loves. (She so greedy, anything also eat lor)
With that, she went on to bake these out-of-the-world bites just for Pecan.
#lifenofair #inottoothlesscaneathor
Not only do we know what ingredients went into creating this yummy bites, there is absolutely no preservatives or additives present.
As a result, these treats have a rather limited shelf life (up to a week).
But seriously, that is hardly a problem lor.
#ourlittletummieswillneversaynotothem
We also love love LOVE that it comes in the shape of a paw!
How awesome is that!
If you're wondering how it taste....
Now you see it,
Now you don't.
#picturesspeakamillionwords

I was watching the entire process like a hawk cos to be honest, I wasn't sure if Mummy would offer me any. since these treats were specially created for Pecan.
But lucky for me, I got my fair share.
Wheeeeeeeeee....
Guess Ah ma becoming toothless isn't such a bad thing after all.

Thank you Auntie Dionne for making Pecan (and my not-so-little tummy) so happy!
More orders are coming your way~

If you've senior pooches like Pecan that can no longer chew on hard treats, why not give these bites a shot!
We're 101% sure they're gonna love it.
Of course, if they don't, please send them this way!

Car Safety 101

Okay la, this isn't exactly Car Safety 101.
Mummy recently made some changes to the way we travel in the car and guess what...
we're absolutely loving it!
This was how we used to ride - shotgun.
And we absolutely loved it, even though our combined weight always triggers the annoying seatbelt warning beep.
Hehehehe...
#inotfat #Iisbigboned #itispecan'sfault
Best part of car rides then, was when we got to peep out and enjoy a nice breeze.
Sam: "The guy is eating an ice-cream!!!"
Pecan: "Where? Where?"
But things ain't the same in the Loo Lim Household anymore.
#boohoohoo
It started with a convo between Mummy and Auntie Kristina (Pecan's trainer). Auntie Kristina was sharing about how a car seat restraint for her dog possibly saved his life when she got into an accident with him in the car.
And that got Mummy thinking.
In addition, Mummy always judges people who let their kids (especially toddlers and infants) sit on their laps, instead of on child seats.
#thatgrindshergears
Of course, she would quietly remind herself that she was guilty as well.
#potcallingkettleblacklor
More importantly, she was getting frustrated with our nose art (Yap, wet dog nose on windows create works of art) and our marathon shedding which ensured that there was hair in every single corner of the car.

So she went ahead and got us seatbelts.
But we were no impressed.
#farfromitcan
We hated being robbed of our freedom, being confined to the back seat and no longer being able to look out of the window and bark at other dogs.
#samthrowingatantrum #Inotlookingatthecamerauntilyouletmego
Seeing how uncomfortable we were also distracted Mummy from driving.
When she turned back to check on us at traffic stops, it was not uncommon to find me tangled up or ah ma with one leg out of her harness.
Moreover, we were still shedding everywhere.
#seelawhoaskyougetjackrussells

Realising that this was hardly the solution, she went online to do some research and got us these!
(She bought it off Amazon and arranged to have them shipped to us via Borderlinx.)
#carseatsfordogs
In addition, she also got us a Tru-Fit Enhanced Strength Harness to make sure we were comfortable throughout the ride.
#matchymatchy
The booster seat is collapsible and extremely easy to fit.
#idiotmummycandoitherself #socanyou
Although it is really lightweight, it can actually hold up to 30lbs!
#ImaylookfatbutIamonly15lbshor
The booster seat has a tether (that can be secured onto the car's actual seatbelt) that can be hooked on to our harness.
In addition, not only can it contain our shedding, the liner and pad is machine washable, allowing mummy to keep the seat fresh and clean!
Initially Mummy was a tad worried that I might not fit in (based on reviews on Amazon).
Hence, she was really pleased to see that I could sit in it nicely.
Guess she ain't the only happy one.
#samapproved
Pecan ah ma was rather pleased as well.
In fact it is big enough for her to lay down comfortably.
Mummy and Daddy would joke that we have left her behind cos we can hardly see her when she lies down.
#ifonlyitwastrue
The only issue with the booster seat is that it comes with a buckle that had to be wrapped around the seat of the car.
As a result, it had to be secured on either the front seat or the smaller side of a 60/40 split bench seat.
That meant that... unless you've a SUV, the booster seat would only be useable on the front seat.

Lucky for us, Gin, our Toyota Rush, has a split bench seat behind.
So that was where ah ma went (obviously).
And in case you're wondering, yap, we can definitely see out of the window!
Okay la, Pecan is a bit short.
#shortisshortla #hengIamABCD
But no worries, it can be adjusted.
The sitting arrangement was pretty ideal, when Mummy is driving alone.
It gets a tad weird when Daddy is in the car too and has to sit behind with ah ma.
So Mummy proceeded to move me behind.
Technically, the buckle isn't long enough to be wrapped around the back side, but with a little bit of stretching and squeezing, it can actually be done.
(Though a buckle extension would be a way better idea.)
Here we are both at the back, but happy nonetheless.
#nowwecanbitchbehindourparentsbackinthecar #likeliterally
So yap, now we're on board, happy and most importantly, safely secured.

A Dear Deer Party!

We're extremely lucky that Auntie Pauline from Howlistic Life has very generously offered to sponsor our little tummies with food and treats!
#weneversaynotofood
YEAH!
After all, we have been long term fans of the many products that her company carries.
*wriggly dance*

When she sent some of the goodies over, we were over the moon and just had to whip out our party hats and CELEBRATE~~
woohoo~
YAP, WE'RE HAVING A DEAR DEER PARTY!
#seeingsomanytreatsmakeusuberhigh
We had always been fans of Dear Deer treats!
I mean...look at them!
How to say no?!
This was seriously how happy we looked all day while Mummy was busy styling the treats.
#happyuntilourmouthscannotclose
Here are some reasons why we are such huge fans.
#yapmummyiscrazyenoughtocreateaninfographicsforthis #shehastoomuchtimeonherhands
Here's what we got our paws on!
(and this isn't even the full range!)
Some tips:
If you have an aggressive chewer (or an annoying pooch that wouldn't leave you alone), we strongly recommend the deer ribs, kneecaps and sinew!
And yap, no kidding man. The Deer Kneecap is probably the only thing that can keep me busy for more than an hour!
It is that challenging.
But if you've a toothless senior (aka. bogay ah ma) or a pup that just isn't a fan of chewing, the jerky, heart, kidney, liver and nuggets are great options!
They can also be easily broken up to be used as training treats.
#wegogagaforthem #iwillrepeatmywholetricksrepertoirejusttogetonepiece #yapmylifeispathetic

I was seriously considering which to start first.
Of course, Pecan ah ma wanted all of them.
#lifedecisions
"Can we start now?"
#thisisnotaquestion
And judging from this...
Yap, our little tummies were more than satisfied.
#astuffeddogisahappydog

Hehe, so make your pups happy by giving them a Dear Deer treat today!!!!
And if you've extras to spare (which we highly doubt so), please send it this way!

GDAB Dog Challenge (25 April 2015)

We had a blast at Woof-a-thon last weekend.
So when the Guide Dog Association of the Blind (GDAB) contacted us about an upcoming outdoor event, we just couldn't say no!
#yeahtomoredoggieoutings

We all know how important our eyes are to us.
Without the gift of sight, there are many things that we will not be able to do.
Unfortunately, there are some among us that are not as blessed as we are.
That's where guide dogs come in. These noble animals dedicate their lives to being the shield, companion and eyes to their visually impaired handler.
The International Guide Dogs Day is a day to recognise the importance of guide dogs within our society.

In line with the International Guide Dogs Day, GDAB is organising their very first GDAB Dog Challenge on 25 April 2015 at Bishan Park, Activity Lawn 1. They are hoping to raise $100, 000 which will be used for the training of the blind and visually impaired as well as their guide dog programmes.

The GDAB Dog Challenge will consist of a 1.5km walk with some obstacles (such as hurdle jumps, tyre jumps, tunnel and many more) along the way for pet owners and their furry pals to overcome together.
Not only will it be tons of fun, it is also a great opportunity for owners and their furkids to bond.
#challengeaccepted

Shhhh... don't tell people but we practise first k.
#kiasusingaporeans
#ahmafirst
Besides the challenge, there will be other contests, performances (live music!) and lucky draws too!
You can also treat your furkid to a canine massage by Paws Fur Life after a good workout.
#mefirstmefirst
And hor, the best part of all... there's FREE ice cream and drinks for everyone.
Woohoo~

Register now and you can stand a chance to win a pet hotel package at Sunny Heights (OUR FAVOURITE POOL PLACE!). Of course, participants will also receive a goodie bag worth $60.
(Each registration ($38) admits one dog owner and one dog!)
No worries if you don't have a dog, you're also welcomed to participate!
#oryoucanborrowahma #dontneedtoreturnone

To be honest, I'm pretty inspired by the awesome guide dogs.
#myhero #iwanttobeonewhenigrowup #waitiamalreadygrownup #chey
Mummy told me that it takes as long as two years to train a playful pup into a responsible guide dog.
#toomuchworkman
So I guess I ain't gonna make the cut.
Oh well....
In the meantime, I'll just do my part in guiding the senile old lady around the obstacles at the GDAB Dog Challenge.
I guess that counts?
See you there!!!

Woof-A-Thon on 12 April 2015!

We're very honoured to be invited to participate in Woof-a-thon, the first pet walkathon organised by Singapore Heart Foundation!
When: Sunday, 12 April 2015
Time: 4pm to 7pm
Where: Bishan Park, Grand Lawn 1 (Opposite Dog Run Area)

We all know exercising is great for our health. So why not make it fun by doing it with our pets.
This is exactly what this event is about!
Woof-a-thon aims to advocate the cardiovascular benefits associated with walking, a low-impact physical activity which pet owners are more inclined to partake.
#suddenlysoknowledgeable #seeiamsmartone #ionlypretendtobestupid #pecanisreallystupid #itakefrompressreleaseonela

Although registration for the Buddy walk has closed for pet owners, participants without pets are still welcome to join in the walk for free!
No worries if you've pets (and have missed the opportunity to register), there are many other exciting things happening on the spot as well.
Needless to say, we are really looking forward to a nice day out with our parents.
Pecan ah ma can't wait to show off her cool sneakers.
#hengshenotwearingjimmychoos
As for me....
I'm stuck with these disgusting lamb booties.
I know it's the year of the lamb, but it doesn't mean that I've to be in lamb costume day in day out.
#mummyhasbadfashionsense
#mylifesucks
#samisnotimpressed

Guess I probably should spend the week convincing Mummy that these ugly shoes ain't such a good idea.
Anyway, don't forget to put on your walking shoes and catch us there!
We'll be waiting!
