Oh my Sherman

Oh my Sherman

Sam, the HDB dog!

It has been almost a month since I officially became a HDB flat dog.
(*HDB flats are public housing in Singapore)
So far, so good.

While I really do miss our neighborhood in NYC, my current neighborhood doesn't pale in comparison.  Hee, here's a peek into my daily routine as an HDB dog.

It begins with a 'I want to go out' face and staring out.
After gearing up, we have to take the lift down.

(OOTD: My ecofriendly Martingale Collar and a cool red retractable leash)
Introducing my neighborhood!
 Presenting my block!
I will proceed to do my 'deeds' and a couple of meet and greet.

Unfortunately, there aren't many dogs around and I would meet an average of just three to four dogs a week. (Sad huh...)
Despite that, there are ample trees and grassy areas for me to sniff and mark. Guess that more than makes up for the lack of butts to sniff.
After all official business matters are settled, mummy and I would proceed to sit down, relax and people watch. And of course, fool around a little. =P
I am normally exhausted by the end of our daily routine and would start yawning (Which is pretty much the cue for mummy to bring me home).
Nothing beats some ice cold water to quench my thirst once we get home.
After which, I would lay down and drift to lalaland~ zzzz...

This routine repeats itself another three times a day (varying in duration) and that pretty summarizes my daily life.
(Special events like a swim or a dog park visit occurs about once a week too.)

Not bad for a HDB dog huh?

Made with Love... 3rd Serving!

Mummy made chicken jerky today (again)!

Practice really makes perfect. This is officially the best batch of them all! Using the jerky gun provided, the slices of jerky ended up being the right length and thickness. Not only were the texture and the color of the jerky excellent, they had the perfect chewiness and crunch too.
YUM YUM.

(Don't say I never share...
The magic ingredients are...Minced chicken with parsley and garlic powder.)

Hee, can you tell which are handmade?
Presenting the Alessi Jars - perfect air tight dog treat jars that keep treats nice and fresh!
  A Super duper excited me...
Led to a really happy me!
Hee, okay, I know it's getting slightly boring, but this is definitely the last serving of jerky! The next made with love entry will certainly be something more interesting.
(Maybe a dog cookie? *Hint hint mummy)

The men of the households...

I obviously wear the pants in the Lim Household.
But, there's another boss in the Loo Household - GrandDaddy (who apparently has even more say than me. -_-)
So, I did what smart doggies do - I charmed him!

And we became great friends! Or TV companions rather.
Hee, nothing beats spending a good weekend afternoon with GrandDaddy watching TV and getting endless tummy rubs.

Sigh. Life~

My nice little weekend..

Now that we have finally settled down in the sunny little red dot, our weekends are becoming more structured and my parents are starting to spend more time with me, doing things I adore (their main aim is to tire me out actually).

We went to K9 Kulture (at Turf City) and were pleasantly surprised to find it empty on a lovely Saturday afternoon.
I pretty much had the pool to myself for the good half of the hour, before several other little dogs came in.
I was too obsessed with my monkey to be too bothered with other dogs, even when another Jack Russell decided to join me on my swim. (I was more concerned she was eyeing on my monkey, but it turned out that she just enjoyed swimming beside other dogs.)

After a good hour of workout, we settled down in the cafe and while my parents had coffee, I was served yummy liver brownies!
We chilled at the cafe for about an hour before finally heading to Auntie Shoon's place for dinner. (I also got to play a little fetch and roamed around the grassy areas for a short while too!)

Another happy day.
Looking forward to weekends!!

Made with Love.. Second Serving!

After Mummy's first successful attempt making beef jerky, she embarked on her second attempt - Chicken Breast Jerky.

This time, she made sure to keep it within budget and bought two packets of chicken breast (for less than $5).

Mummy added some parsley and garlic powdering to increase the tastiness of the chicken.
(Plus, parsley also helps to remove stinky breath!)

Stupid mummy only seasoned the top of the meat. Hence when she proceeded to slice them to 1/8" to 1/4" thick pieces, not all pieces were well seasoned.
Duh~
But they sure looked and smelt good nonetheless.

Close up of the best slice piece!
*Drools*

Unfortunately, it took a whooping eight hours for the whole dehydration process to be completed. I was soooo bored of waiting.
T_T

At least dinner was awesome! Mummy rewarded my patience with a home cooked chicken meal using the leftover meat and some frozen vegetables.
Daddy commented that it smelt so good that he wanted to have them for himself.
Ho ho ho.
Not happening, Daddy!

Finally, after a looong wait, the jerky were fully dehydrated!

I could not wait to sink my teeth in that!
Looked every inch like the store sold ones!

To ensure that all bacteria had been destroyed and to prolong the shelf life of the jerky, mummy placed them in the oven (at the lowest temperature) for ten minutes.
Though it's not very visible from the photo below, but the jerky were visibly more golden after the quick bake.
Hee, silly mummy got this step a little reversed as the 'baking' of the jerky should be done before the dehydration as that would kill the bacteria better and easily. But, oh well, better late than never plus, lesson learnt! Next time!

I was putting on my best 'begging' face the moment the tray came out of the oven.

The crispy and golden end product!!!

GIVE ME SOME!!!!!

Eagerly waiting....
(Yes, Peachy was waiting too.)

Sigh. The satisfaction of finally eating the very thing I was eyeing on for the longest time - Priceless.
I gobbled five pieces.
Too fast, too little.
=(

Presenting the home made chicken jerky.
Made with love, once again.

Mummy stored the remaining jerky in the mason jar she bought from the states and kept them away, readily rewarding me with little pieces for each good behavior I display.

Hee, I joked that the jar looked so good and that mummy could considering selling it. But seeing the amount of time that goes into it, probably not really worth the effort. LOL, well, who cares. As long as I get to eat it.

NOM NOM.

When Peachy came to visit...

I hosted a house guest over the weekend - my 'girlfriend', Peachy!
Peachy is my direct opposite.
She is a 4 year old Jack Russell, smooth coat, short legs and pointy ears.
I am a 3 year old Jack Russell, rough coat, long legs and floppy ears,
Hee, we make a good couple, don't we?

We both smile charmingly.

We both love begging for treats.

We both love to wrestle.

And love to play fetch!

Getting ready!
"Throw the ducky, Mummy!"

"Ho ho ho, I got it! Nope, it's mine."

After a twist, Peachy managed to steal it from me.
Grrrrrrr...
Quietly stalking and waiting for my chance to get ducky back...

A very happy girl!

When we got bored of fetching and stalking, we decided to get involved in a game of tug.
Yes, we both love to tug!

"Give it to me! Grrrr..."

We were exhausted after two good hours of play!
Time for a break!
Last but not least, we both love to cuddle!

Made with Love~

After the Milo Kitchen's treats scare, mummy started being rather picky when choosing treats for me. She is careful to purchase only treats made in the USA, Singapore or Japan. As a result, treats became kinda costly and Daddy NEVER fails to nag mummy whenever she walks into a pet store.
(sorry mummy.. boo daddy)

Mummy did some research and found out that she could make good quality treats (without worrying about what horrible ingredients are inside) at a fraction of the cost in the comforts of our home! One easy way is to use a food dehydrator! She found a great pet treat maker by Open Country on amazon.
After a good 5 months of purchasing it, she finally put it into use!

Eagerly waiting for what's to come.

Presenting the food dehydrator.
The dehydrator uses a heat and air flow to dehydrate the foods (reduce water content). Removing moisture prevents bacteria from growing and food from spoiling. Hence, treats made could be kept longer.

Mummy went to NTUC and purchased some lean minced Australian beef.
Hee, stupid mummy went to the wrong counter and chose the most expensive meat without realising. As a result, the beef came up to almost $18!
So much for being budget. =P But hey, I'm not complaining!

The pet treat maker came with 5 packets of spice seasoning!

Mummy used half a packet to season 250g of meat. The smell was heavenly! Even mummy wanted to try!

A jerky gun with 3 attachments to make jerky was also included in the pet treat maker.

The starting product.
Looks awesome doesn't it??

The only down side of the dehydrator is the time needed. It took a whooping 6 hours before I could sink my jaws into the yummy jerky.

The end product!

Looks good?
It certainly smelt heavenly!
Mummy's friends who came to visit wanted to try it too! The jerky are actually human edible. However, since mummy used the pet treat seasoning, she does not recommend human consumption. *YEAH, THEY ARE ALLLLL MINE!*

Eagerly waiting!!
(Featuring Peachy, my housemate for the weekend. More on her in the next post!)

The jerky was beyond this world!
I loooooved it!

Hee, mummy set aside some of the jerky and froze the rest.
Those kept in room temperature could be stored for up to 3 weeks!
I want more, moRE, MORE!

The best part of mummy preparing treats for me....
the leftover minced beef was added to dinner!
Wheeeee~~~

Really thank you mummy for the treats that were made with love!!!!
Hee, more to come I hope!!
